Wellington Branch

Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Charity Ride - 8 October 2006

Check out the Auckland Branch Pink Ribbon ride

Ribbons of Pink

By good luck and mismanagement, it just so happened that we were in Wellington the exact same weekend as WIMA Wellington was to hold their Pink Ribbon Charity Run this year. And with even more great planning we had our bike gear with us, and a bike all lined up to borrow!

As Sunday dawned a stunner of a day, and we could join in with the group when they took a pit stop at the Mobil Station by the Paremata round about — it was all systems go! Unfortunately I’m not blessed with long legs, so I settled into the role of pillion for the ride. Suited me just fine, I was then able to enjoy the day, the weather, the ride, the boats trying to sail out of Paremata Yacht Club in next to no wind... Shear bliss!!

The ride had started at the Wellington Railway Station, leaving at 10am. We joined in when they re-grouped at Paremata at about 10.30am. While I purchased a couple of badges, Tez had a quick bite of breakfast. Managed to take a few people by surprise in the process, as they weren’t expected a couple of visitors from Hawkes Bay!!

With the re-group accomplished, we were back on the road, winding our way around the Pauatahanui Inlet. The water in the Inlet was like glass, making for a picturesque scene, reminding all that summer is just around the corner. Then up and over Haywards Hill to join onto the Western Hutt Road, we then headed back towards Lower Hutt and our final destination of TSS Motorcycles in Alicetown. Thankfully the traffic wasn’t too bad, although – as with every run – the group did get spread out quite a bit.

It truly was a great day for a ride, and there was a good turn out for the event. At our destination a free sausage sizzle was kindly put on, plus we were able to wander around the bike shop and peruse the bikes and accessories. To finish the day off, there was a spot prize draw, with the prizes being donated by none other than TSS Motorcycles! Yours truly even managed to take out the last prize of the day – a cap.

This was certainly an event worthy of getting out of bed for! And definitely a very worthy cause to donate to. My thanks to Kate and her team for organising the ride, TSS Motorcycles for their part in it all, and to Teamgreen who loaned us a KLR for the day!
